SE50

se50

Boss SE-50 multi-effects processor.

I bought this the minute they came out, it was £300 and worth every penny because it was the first time you could get so many effects of fairly good quality in one box. It even has a vocoder (not that good but I used it on the first DMX Krew album). The chorus is nice and the pitch shifting is cool, and it's very quick and easy to program. I also like the gated reverb settings a lot.

My original SE50 got nicked from my house a while ago and I bought this one off Mike Dred. Searching for links just now, I found out that he used it on the first Kosmic Kommando record on Rephlex! So it's a piece of techno history....
I also had the SE70 for a while which is even better, especially the chorus is fantastic. Perhaps I'll pick up another one one of these days, they are pretty cheap secondhand.

EXAMPLE SOUNDS

These sounds are examples of the SE50 processing sounds from the K2000 and SH-09 in different ways.

SE5001 - my voice through the SE-50 pitch shifter.
SE5002 - my voice through a short pitch-shifted delay with feedback.
SE5003 - TR-808 drums with dry snare, then snare through a downward pitch shifted delay, then through an upward pitch-shifted delay.
SE5004 - TR-808 drums through gated reverb.
SE5005 - clavinet with reverb.
SE5006 - SH-09 bass sound first dry, then through a stereo chorus, with dry TR-808 drums.
SE5007 - TR-808 drums with flanged hihats and snare.
SE5008 - Rhodes sound with rotating speaker simulator.
SE5009 - TR-808 drums through a reverb with a reverse gate effect.
SE5010 - organ sound first dry and then through a multiple pitch-shifter creating a different kind of chorus.
SE5011 - the same organ sound through a fuzz distortion.
