Prologue MIDI/CV interface.
This is a four-channel MIDI to CV interface made by the guys at Synth Service Centre which used to be in Chalk Farm but is now in Acton.
Before this I had the Groove Electronics M4CV which you had to tune with little screwdrivers, this one is a lot better because you can program the tuning (and everything else) digitally and save it. So it stays in tune better. On the other hand, a lot of the programming is in hexadecimal which is weird. But once you've got it set up, it works, you can run 4 monosynths with it and it has 8 CV outputs and 8 gates so you can easily set up the mod wheel to control the filter on each synth (for example). There's also a built in LFO and it's quite happy with Hz/V as well as V/Oct.
My only major gripe is that the portamento is universal - if you turn it on for one channel it comes on for all four which is totally useless and the opposite of what the instructions claim. It's also supposed to have a MIDI/DIN sync convertor for running TR-808s and the like, but I had a lot of problems getting that to work properly.
But it's still a good cost-effective solution for running CV/Gate synths from MIDI and it's never broken down on me yet.
